Mothers are asking, “Where is the village?” So we are creating it.
Right now, 15–20 families a week arrive at Huntsman Mental Health Institute in Salt Lake City. Their children, ages [x-x] are at risk of suicide.
Imagine a mother in this situation. Her child has been admitted to the hospital after experiencing suicidal thoughts or an attempted suicide.
She is in shock. Her heart is shattered. She hasn’t slept or eaten.
She is in the hospital or at home worrying that she missed the warning signs — and is still managing the kids at home, a job, and the financial weight of a hospital stay.
We’ve heard many mothers in this situation ask, “Where is the village that is supposed to help me?”
Finally, we are creating that hope-filled village.
It all starts with a care kit that quietly says, “You are seen. You are not alone. There is hope.”
Then we connect her to support groups and other mothers who understand exactly what she’s carrying, and help her through it.
From Sara, a care kit recipient in Utah:
“The night we brought our 10 year old daughter to the crisis center after a failed attempt was a blur of questions, paperwork, and crying. Learning she was being moved to inpatient care made my heart crack into a million pieces.
I wondered how I’d ever breathe normally again. And then, they brought us a bright yellow tote bag.
Making the long walk down the hallway away from my child and on the hardest journey, I noticed a bottle of water and snacks in the bag. We spent 20 minutes crying and talking in the car while I ate those chips one at a time, fueling myself for the journey home and beyond.
Once we got home, I opened the note inside from Cheryl. Suddenly, I wasn’t alone. There was another mother who knew the pain and fear and heartbreak I was feeling and here she was, holding my hand through this bright yellow tote bag. I hugged that bag and cried tears of gratitude rather than heartbreak.
I never wear ponytails. But that week my daughter was inpatient, I threw my hair up in a messy bun using the pony holders from the tote every day so I could feel and remind myself that I wasn’t alone. Other mothers have fought this and won, and so I can too.
My daughter was discharged home today, and I’m writing this watching her sleep peacefully in her bed.
That yellow tote bag got me through this last week. And already I’ve attended one support group and I know these mothers will help get me and my daughter through the battles we have yet to face.”

Love Like a Mother care kits are one of a kind
Huntsman has told us there is currently nothing like this for mothers.
They are filling a deep need that isn’t being filled any other way.
Monthly giving helps secure the resources to provide as many families as possible that same message of comfort and hope.
Looking ahead: Love Like a Mother was born from one family’s story, but we’ve learned that story is shared by families everywhere. Mothers across the country and around the world are asking for this kind of support. Monthly giving helps transform a local mission into a movement—bringing hope to families wherever they are.

Why Monthly Contributions are Key
Mental health crises don’t happen on a schedule, and neither can our response. Monthly giving ensures care kits are ready, support resources are available, volunteers are equipped, and families receive immediate help—without waiting for the next fundraiser or grant cycle.
No mom should sit alone at the hospital or at home fearful for her child and not having anyone who understands to support her.
Consistent support helps us work toward a future where no mom faces a child’s mental health crisis alone — where support, understanding, and resources are ready and waiting, and asking for help carries no stigma.
Help us reach $5,000/month in recurring gifts within our first year — so every mom at Huntsman, and beyond, has a care kit waiting for her.

What is my impact?
Monthly donors are the heartbeat of our Mission. Because of them, we can provide:
Consistency: Every mother can experience the same unexpected act of compassion, regardless of the day, the week, or the funding cycle.
Readiness: Preparing us to best respond immediately with care kits, resources, and a community that reminds mothers they are not alone.
The Hope Village is more than a monthly giving program—it’s a movement of people united by one conviction: no mother should face a child’s mental health crisis alone. Some of us have lived this journey firsthand. Others have walked it with someone they love. All of us believe families deserve compassion, connection, and hope.
Together, we’re building a community where no one has to face this road alone. If that’s the kind of world you want to help create, we invite you to help build The Hope Village.
